This page is dedicated to the Southeast Coyote Classic, which is set to take place January 25th, 26th & 27th of 2019. The hunt will be held in memory of Brian Keith Griffin. A fine man who was taken from his friends and family on April 17, 2014 while turkey hunting in Clay County Kentucky. You can read about Brian in the links section on the right side of this page, called Brian's Story.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The Southeast Coyote Classic is a STATE WIDE coyote hunt taking place ONLY in the State of Kentucky, which means competitors can hunt anywhere within Kentucky. However, if you are a NON RESIDENT HUNTER and would like to take part in this hunt, all you need to do is purchase the proper hunting license from the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife. A link to Kentucky's wildlife page can be found in the LINKS section to the right of this page under KDFW.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This hunt is still in the early stages of planning with details still being worked out. As tasks are completed, they will be added here. Please revisit this page for updated information which, will be posted when they are finalized.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Thank you again for visiting the page, and hope to see you in January putting some coyotes on the ground.
These rules will apply to everyone, and will not be changed to accommodate anyone. If you do not think you can abide by these rules, do not take part in the hunt.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

- VERY IMPORTANT: Each coyote harvested MUST BE videoed by a smart phone or some type of camera that can be viewed during check in when the kill block is inserted in its mouth. The video will need to show YOU PICKING UP THE ANIMAL, SHAKING IT, TO SHOW IT'S FRESH, and no stiffness is present. Also a team member MUST VIDEO YOU WRITING THE 3 DIGIT CODE ON THE BLOCK BEFORE PUTTING IT INTO THE ANIMALS MOUTH. BLOCKS CANNOT BE MARKED WITH THE NUMBER BEFOREHAND. THEY MUST BE FILLED OUT UPON A SUCCESSFUL HARVEST.

The block WILL ALSO need to be numbered 1, 2, 3 and so on. The first animal you harvest, that block will need to be number 1 and so on. EACH KILL BLOCK MUST HAVE BOTH TEAM MEMBERS INITIALS ON IT AS WELL.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Entry fee for hunt is $50 per team. Teams will consist of only two members. This hunt will consist of a 90/10 split on the proceeds. 90% of winnings will be paid out to the top three teams. 10% of the proceeds will be presented to the archery team at Clay County High School in Manchester, Kentucky

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Teams MAY NOT split up.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ALL animals MUST be taken using CENTERFIRE rifles or SHOTGUNS.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This is a DAYTIME COYOTE HUNT ONLY. No bobcats or foxes will be accepted or scored. The reason for daytime hunt is because night hunting is not allowed on federal public land in Kentucky such as the DBNF, LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES AND BIG SOUTH FORK, which is more than likely where a lot of OOS hunters will want to hunt. That puts OOS hunters at a disadvantage if they do not have permission or access to private land in the state.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This hunt will take place in KENTUCKY ONLY, but IS OPEN to Out-Of-State hunters as long as they purchase the proper licenses to be legal. All coyotes must be harvested in Kentucky. Out-Of-State hunters MUST hunt on public land unless they have permission to be on private land, own private land or are hunting with a Kentucky resident who owns or has permission to hunt private land in Kentucky. (A complete list of all public hunting land in Kentucky is posted in a separate post. It is YOUR responsibility to know the rules and regulations on any public land area you are hunting.)

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ALL resident hunters and OOS hunters must have current State of Kentucky hunting licenses and may be asked to present them at check in along with hunters education card if applicable. (Please refer to Hunter Education Guidelines set forth by the KDFW in the rules section.)

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ALL licenses must be in your possession during hunt and at check in. Anyone caught hunting without the proper license are subject to be reported to Fish & Wildlife officials. ALL out-of-state hunters taking part in the event will be required to present an original copy of their non-resident Kentucky hunting licenses upon check in.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Hunt will START on Friday, January 25th at 8:00 AM

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">REGISTRATION for this hunt will begin on July 1, 2018. (You do not have to be present to register for the hunt. (Please see rule relating to head shots)

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">HEAD SHOTS may be taken on animals. HOWEVER, any head shot that causes damage to the muzzle area of any animal to the extent a kill block can not properly be placed inside its mouth per the kill block regulations, that animal WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Again, head shots are allowed, and are your choice. Just be aware that a poorly placed shot, damaging the muzzle of the animal could cause the animal to be disqualified if kill blocks can not be used as instructed.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> The pooling of coyotes by teams IS NOT ALLOWED. Anyone caught attempting to pool animals together will be disqualified.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> This may seem like a lot of rules, but they are very simple and easy. The main thing is to be smart, be honest, hunt safe, be on time, have fun and you have nothing to worry about.Travis Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06741854847507904369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656235221650597945.post-88659596009929361242018-10-19T13:38:00.002-07:002018-10-19T13:38:18.771-07:00Registering with PayPalIf your an out-of-state or non local hunter, and your wondering how your gonna register for the hunt without driving a long distance, never fear as you can register using Paypal. If using the traditional method of sending money for goods & services, you will need to add an additional 3% to your total, making it $51.50. The three percent is to cover the fees tacked on by Paypal.

Another option would be to send the money to Family & Friends. This option would allow you to send money without any fees being applied, which would make your registration $50.00.

The email address to send payment to if using Paypal is www.southeastcoyoteclassic@gmail.com

No matter which option you use, PLEASE put in the notes section the names of your two team members and your location. Thank You. The instructions are easy to follow and understand. Blocks are made from what many people refer to as a "one by", which is meant to mean a 1" x 1" piece of wood that comes in strips of several different lengths such as 8' and 10' long. However, most of the time, when measured, the size of the wood is usually 3/4" by 3/4", and not a true one inch in size. This will qualify to be used for a kill block. These strips of wood do not cost but a few dollars at any home improvement store, and are very simple to make. Just cut multiple pieces no longer and no less than 3" in length using a skill or table saw. DO NOT paint the blocks as painted blocks will not be accepted.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Along with the blocks, your team will also need zip ties. These ties must be long enough to go around the animals snout and lower mouth section to hold the kill block securely in the animals mouth. Zip ties must be one piece. The CAN NOT be pieced together with multiple shorter pieces to make a longer one. Many stores sale long zip ties which are plenty long enough to complete the job. There is NO color restriction on zip ties. They can by any color you choose.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">NOTICE: PLEASE REFER TO RULES RELATING TO HEAD SHOTS AND DAMAGE TO MUZZLE AREA OF ANIMALS IN THE RULES SECTION AS IT IS DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO KILL BLOCK USAGE.
